Honey

I had entered my first post about Miles the Monster and done up an “About” page, so I sent a link to my blog to Billy.  The first thing he said was, “What about Buns (Honey Buns, that is)?”

My parents expressed the same sentiment.  ”So, this is going to be just about Miles?  What about Ms. Buns?”

You see, Honey is our almost-7-year-old  Jack Russell Terrier.  She has been a loyal friend and important part of our family since we first brought her home.  She’s been there from Lafayette to Dallas to Houston back to Lafayette and now North Carolina.  Apartments, houses, big cars, little cars. The only dog I can imagine who could be stuck on a 16-hour drive from Louisiana to North Carolina and never whine.

Middy Buns (yeah, she has a lot of nicknames) is one smart cookie.  I swear when I’m talking to her she can understand everything I’m saying.  But it’s more than her large vocabulary that’s impressive. She understands the difference between the kind of watchdog she needs to be when Billy’s home and when I’m here by myself.  She knows when it’s Saturday and that means she probably gets to go somewhere.

Scrump LOVES people.  Especially little ones.  If she’s ever been leery of someone, I’ve been leery of them, too. She’s never been much of an animal lover.  She’d much rather hunt anything else that isn’t human and she’s loved being an only dog.

So you can see why we were concerned about her when we finally decided to bring home another dog. We felt she’d eventually come around, we just weren’t sure how long it would take.  And while we’ve only had Miles just shy of a month, we’ve marveled at how well she’s adjusted.

Now, she’s not there yet.  Up until yesterday, she was only interested in Miles outside.  Outside, Miles was a playmate and she could play with him for hours.  Inside, he was horning in on her territory and on her parents. She “tolerated” him.  Yesterday, and now as I type this, she started playing with him inside.  I think this is a good sign.

So, why is the blog about Life With Miles?  Miles will provide much more inspiration and writing material with his never-ending antics.  Honey is just such a good dog and so well-behaved that regular postings on her would be far less entertaining.  Wouldn’t you rather read about a bucking, house-eating puppy and think “better them than me?”

I love my girl and will post about her regularly on here on her own page.  I imagine she’d like it better this way.  At least here she doesn’t have to share with Miles.

You can get a brief description of Honey, aka The Best Dog Ever, on the “About” page of this blog.

YEAH Middy Buns, you old hobo.

You got your own page and what a great introduction to the many people out there reading this blog.

Tell Mom thanks for giving you your space. Take care of Jenny and Billy and of course Miles AKA Coach.
