Mondays in our house typically mean one thing: Miles becomes Mayhem. Miles hates Mondays and he shows us just how much through his hyperactivity when I come home from work. When Miles was sick, we didn’t experience this at all because he had no energy to spend going bananas all night. Last night was the first Monday in a while that I experienced Mayhem Miles.
I had fooled myself into thinking we wore Miles out so much over the weekend, he’d still be pooped Monday night. Wrong. Apparently, we did so much over the weekend that staying at home all day Monday simply didn’t cut it for Miles. He was out of control last night.
From 5 to 8:30, it was non-stop playing. Miles ran around the backyard. He went up and down the stairs carrying various toys. He would only play with squeaky toys. He would stalk and pounce on Honey. He would run, run, run, then stop. And look around with crazy eyes. Then his head would rear back and he’d run off in another direction. Back and forth. Round and round. Up and down. Panting the whole time.
And he did all this by himself. I usually try to do some physical and mental exercise with him when he’s like this, but I was doing laundry and cleaning the kitchen while Miles was going crazy in the background. At one point I was eating dinner and trying to catch up on the last episode of Lost that I missed. The whole time I was watching it–at full volume–Miles was on the couch behind me sqeaking his kong wubba. He just squeezed the toy over and over and over and over.
Kong Wubba is loud. It’s obnoxious. It’s one of Miles’ favorite toys and I still can’t figure out why we bought it. I tried to tempt Miles with a nice quiet rope toy, but no, he needed a toy that was as loud as he was excited.
Billy came home and we took Miles for a walk. We even made him run up the steep hill to our house. When we let him off the leash in the backyard, he ran some more! I was starting to think he was possessed.
It wasn’t until an hour later–one full hour later–that Miles finally crashed at my feet in the living room. I didn’t hear a peep out of him for the rest of the night and I was exhausted from just watching him all evening!
I’m so glad it’s Tuesday!!
