Between Miles and me both being under the weather lately, outings with the pups have been a no-go. I didn’t think we’d get to do much this weekend either, but much to my surprise, I was in tip-top shape and ready to roll. So, we spent Saturday and Sunday enjoying the great outdoors with Miles and Honey.
We went to Chapel Hill on Sunday to go to “colleges,” the dog park and to picnic. Walking the UNC campus is one of Honey’s favorite things to do as it is chock-full of squirrels and chipmunks. She did not leave disappointed.
The dog park was a must as Miles still isn’t fully comfortable around strange dogs and it had been so long since he’d had the opportunity to interact with new dogs. Miles really, really hates the welcome committee that greets each dog at the gate. It took Billy 2-3 minutes to just get him inside and another couple of minutes for Miles’ newness to wear off and the welcome committee to move on to other things.
Once Miles got past the gate, he went straight for people. He will go to any pair of legs he can find and he tries to herd the other dogs away from his new person–much like he does to Honey with us at home–even if it’s their person he’s clinging to.
He eventually ran around with some other dogs. And by that I mean, he would follow a dog and try to sniff them, but the minute they became aware of his presence and tried to interact, he was wedged between a set of legs. He’ll get there someday. I’m sure of it.
Finally, we headed off to one of Chapel Hill’s great family parks and had a picnic under a large tree. Here are some photos of Miles and Honey enjoying the shade and people watching.
