He looks like an angel, doesn’t he?
Sweet face, made of fluff and stuff. Like a real life teddy bear.
Don’t you just want to steal him and take him home? No, seriously, don’t you?
This is Miles. He’s a going-on-4-months Bernese Mountain Dog mixed with Lab. He was adopted by Billy and I from CARA after he was rescued by them from animal control. He is absolute hell-on-wheels. And we love him to death…we just can’t wait for his puppy, I-must-chew-everything stage to be over and done with.
Take today for example. Because of a very busy, stressful week at work, my wonderful boss gave us the afternoon off to get our weekend started early. It was rainy (as it always is when I have a Friday afternoon and want to go shopping) so my plan was to come home, get comfy and finish reading The Time Traveler’s Wife (which is my 3rd all-time favorite book–read it!). Before I got into serious reading mode, though, the sun came out and the temperature rose, so Honey (to be known henceforth as TBDE–The Best Dog Ever) and Miles went outside for some Vitamin D.
I sat at the computer to check some emails and I look up minutes later to see TBDE come into the study with another dog. A black dog that looked to be Miles’ size and stature, but couldn’t be Miles because Miles is mostly white.
Frantically, I run the dogs back outside and start running a bath for Muddy Miles. At this point, I wasn’t too frazzled so I made sure to grab the camera.
Trust me, this picture doesn’t even show the half of it!
I also grab my phone to try calling Billy to let him know that Miles was gone and a mud monster had been sent in his place. He didn’t answer, but did try calling back as I was carrying a towel-wrapped Miles upstairs for his bath, therefore unable to answer.
Have you tried bathing a 22-going-on-150 pound dog who is full of beans (FOB, meaning “excited”) by yourself only to discover that the bathroom you’re in has no towels to dry him and when he puts just one paw on the side of the tub 5 gallons of water follow? I try calling Billy again. Voicemail. So I call his office and, thankfully, I get an answer. “I’m covered in water and I have no towels,” was all I said.
Minutes later, Billy arrives and looks much to me like a Knight in Shining Armor armed with towels and a good sense of humor and dives in to help me. But not before letting out an “oh my god” at the sight of all the dirt in the tub!
So, now it’s going on 5 o’clock and do you want to know how much reading I’ve been able to get done with my afternoon? Yeah, you guessed it. And, as I type this first post, I look back to see Miles the Angel sleeping soundly on the study sofa that also serves as his midday snack. And I wonder, what were we thinking?

Jenny,
First things first, great job on your blog.
Now I can’t believe a puppy as cute as Miles could do anything except “RIGHT STUFF”. I bet Miles never colors out of the lines and never reaches out for anything, i.e. furniture, clothing, shoes, without asking you or Billy first.
Knowing Honey, she is keeping her radar on, tracking every move Miles makes; no flying under the radar with Honey around.
Also, Miles is our latest Grand child and our grandchildren do only GOOD.
Keep writing, we will keep reading.
KUDOS TO YOU.

I can see how easy it is to fall in love with this mischievous bundle of fur………those eyes alone will get Miles anything he desires. Hang in there dear, so much more fun to come.
And my darling Honey…..she’s such an angel. Stand your ground now Honey…try not to get trampled by this lap dog.

Copper hates baths, too. He shuns me for at least an hour after, but once he’s in the water, he’s grumpy but still. Daisy, on the other hand, will NOT stop trying to jump out. I don’t know what she’s full of, but these beans you speak of must be growing wild in the neighborhood. All in all, though, they’re only 20 pounds or so. I can’t imagine trying to bathe Miles in a few months.
Of course, I thought nothing could be more psycho than Daisy and we had to go and adopt Buster. I don’t know what bathing a wolverine would be like, but I can’t imagine it would be worse. I have scars.
P.S. Love the blog. Keep it up.

Love the blog! Keep writing so we can see how Miles grows
) We have a 5 month old Great Dane puppy (along with a 12 year old St. Bernard and 10 year old Cocker Spaniel). It’s funny how they can look so angelic when they are sleeping, but really turn it on when they are awake.
Chloe’s already eating us out of house and home. I can’t imagine how much she’ll eat when she’s “grown”. It will be interesting to see how Miles and Chloe grow together.
Here are some pictures of my babies:
